The day before my 3rd surgery

Here is a beautiful picture of Ivee holding my dad's hand post surgery. Isn't it sweet?
Ivee goes back into surgery tomorrow mid-morning for the following: insert a gastric line, get a spinal tap, get bone marrow, get a bone sample, remove the stiches from her head wounds, and check her central line in her belly cause they can't get blood return on it but can push fluids in. The bone scan from yesterday showed that her bones are clear or any growths. It also showed incidentally that her kidneys have reflux. The oncologist said this isn't really anything to be concerned about. It is just something that usually happens in people who have alot of bladder infections.
She had a good night of sleep last night, about 6 hours. That is the best rest she has had yet. And she has been quite restful today. She had a hearing test. Her left ear passed. Her right ear may be affected by the surgery. We won't know yet. We just know it didn't pass today's test.
Her PH test from yesterday revealed that she does have gastric reflux (heartburn). I already knew that from all the times she would constantly spit up on me. So she is on zantac. She is off her antibiotics and no fever has returned. She still has a horrible case of diaper rash, but it is beginning to heal.
She is looking around and reaching for stuff today. That is a great step. Oh, and I forgot to mention that in the middle of all of this, she got her first tooth!
TODAY... she did something we thought we wouldn't see for a long time. She SMILED! Twice.
We truly appreciate all of your comments. They give us encouragement. Paula, thank you for the bit of research you did on her name. Ivee, for those who want to know, is the name of my grandmother, my dads mom, who passed away about a year ago. So her name is very special, just like Ivee is.

Hope,

Wow, I have been on my knees and my heart goes out to you and your family. Sweetie, you know 5 years ago when we were adopting a baby we had waited for so long I was diagnosed with the last stage of ovarian cancer and my doctor wouldn't allow me to adopt because he said I woudln't be here in 6 months....guess what GOD IS GOOD AND HE ANSWERS PRAYERS....we adopted a new born baby boy November 9, 2006 6 lbs. 11ozs. "Caleb (Faithful) Logan Pipkins". Honey, sometimes we don't understand why God allows us to go through the things we have to go through but I promise He has a purpose and a plan, KEEP the FAITH. IF you need anything please know I am here 850-393-1542 (my cell.

Kevin and I are keeping you in our daily prayers. We have added you to our church's prayer list.

I am so glad to hear that she is smiling. In any situation, a baby's smile is a gift from God!

What a testimony God is giving her. God must be planning to use you guys and Ivee for great things.

Love you all!

Hi, Hope! I've been keeping tabs on you and your family for years thru Sonia when I would come home and visit McCullough. It seems like just a few months ago that you and Deb and Mindee and I were acting like the silly girls we were, and now I turn around and you're all moms (counting Deb's bun)! What a beautiful family you have. Not being a mom, I can't even wrap my mind around what this must be like for you--but if your character is anything like mine, fear and frustration take over, you remind yourself Who's in charge, give it over to Him, feel better, and then run back and pick it up again as soon as a new development occurs! As I was praying for a peace for you and your family, I was reminded of a story I was told in a sermon. The person in the story was reading Psalm 91:4, where it refers to God covering us with his wings and us finding safety under his feathers. Later, the person was being attacked by some thugs. The person was frightened and didn't know what to do. In desperation, they tried to remember the verse, but it came out wrong. They started shouting, "I'm covered in feathers! I'm covered in feathers!" It freaked the attackers out so much they ran away. The story cracked me up at the time, but for some reason the phrase always stuck with me, and I use it when I pray. So in this situation, now you know what I mean when I say that I pray that God covers Ivee and your family with feathers! I don't know His plan in this situation, but we've all seen His work in hindsight enough times to know He's up to something. In the meantime, I'm trusting Him to give you and everyone involved enough strength and faith to let Him do His thing. I'm including all of Psalm 91 here--it's so good. I especially like the phrase of Verse 9: The Lord is the one who keeps you safe. So let the Most High God be like a home to you. --Tina Nabors

Psalm 91
1 The person who rests in the shadow of the Most High God
will be kept safe by the Mighty One.
2 I will say about the Lord,
"He is my place of safety.
He is like a fort to me.
He is my God. I trust in him."
3 He will certainly save you from hidden traps
and from deadly sickness.
4 He will cover you with his wings.
Under the feathers of his wings you will find safety.
He is faithful. He will keep you safe like a shield or a tower.
5 You won't have to be afraid of the terrors that come during the night.
You won't have to fear the arrows that come at you during the day.
6 You won't have to be afraid of the sickness that attacks in the darkness.
You won't have to fear the plague that destroys at noon.
7 A thousand may fall dead at your side.
Ten thousand may fall near your right hand.
But no harm will come to you.
8 You will see with your own eyes
how God punishes sinful people.
9 The Lord is the one who keeps you safe.
So let the Most High God be like a home to you.
10 Then no harm will come to you.
No terrible plague will come near your tent.
11 The Lord will command his angels
to take good care of you.
12 They will lift you up in their hands.
Then you won't trip over a stone.
13 You will walk all over lions and cobras.
You will crush mighty lions and poisonous snakes.
14 The Lord says, "I will save the one who loves me.
I will keep him safe, because he trusts in me.
15 He will call out to me, and I will answer him.
I will be with him in times of trouble.
I will save him and honor him.
16 I will give him a long and full life.
I will save him."

What a blessing from God that she smiled at you all and that she was able to hold his hand. Her little tooth is also another sign from God that he defintely has His Hand on sweet little Ivee. We will continue to pray for you guys and keep us posted on her surgery today. We do miss you and Ivee at work!!
